Blueberry season in Australia is typically from June or July right through until April. The peak supply is in January when conventionally grown Blueberries peak.
Blueberry plants can fruit for 50 years or more but it can take several years to see a yield from blueberry crops. Most blueberry plants spend two years in a nursery before being planted commercially, and for optimal lifespan it’s best to avoid fruiting in the first year or two after that [MSU].

Blueberries are native to North America. They were first grown commercially in Australia in 1974 and certain varieties were quickly found to thrive in the Northern Rivers region of NSW.
Almost 90% of Australian blueberries are grown in NSW. Up to 60% are grown indoors which allows an almost year round supply. Conventionally grown blueberries flood the market in summer offering the best value for buyers.
New varieties are being tested that aim to extend the blueberry season outside NSW and consumers are now looking for jumbo varieties and organically grown blueberries.
